Strategy 2 – Learn to write powerful, persuasive sales copy that makes people want to buy from you
Learn to write powerful, persuasive sales copy that makes people want to buy from you
Don’t be defensive or negative here, I need you to keep an open mind for what I’m about to share. Good sales copy – and that means all your copy should be powerful yet conversational. So many business people feel that their sales copy should be what they’d consider… “Professional”, and therefore full of clever, big words. Rubbish.
Don’t write your copy all prim and proper, write like you’re having an interesting and exciting conversation with a good friend. Forget most of what they taught you at school or college about “correct” letter writing. I promise, your customers will like it more and your sales will reflect it. (This said; always consider point 4 below which is about knowing your target customer).
Many people struggle with this next point too; the text should be full of benefits to the reader, and usually quite long. That’s right, long. Keep in mind that copy can’t be too long, only too boring.
Interesting copy is crucial in building relationships and helping people accept what’s on offer. Relationships are fundamental to your business -people like to buy from interesting people they like and trust.
The more they like you and trust you, the more likely they are to buy from you, and the more often they’ll buy too.
If writing sales copy really isn’t your thing don’t panic. There are hundreds of places you can outsource copy writing to these days and at extremely competitive rates. Take a look at www.elance.com

Hi Steve,
I just registered at Elance.com. can you recommend anybody who does your sales copy?
I write my own sales copy. Depending on what you need I could make recommendations. Feel free to email me.
I did not take it as criticism in fact it confirms what my Intuition tells me but felt it should be more “professional”. Am currently re-evaluating now.
Thank you for this tip.
You can’t hold a gun and play guitar at the same time. So, if everyone played guitar there would be world peace. World peace, love and undersatnding is what motivates and makes me passionate about teaching guitar. How did I do Steve? Thank you for your tips… you are an inspiration.
Best wishes,

Hi Steve,
I really appreciate you spending the time to help us Business Link newbies at Hemel yesterday.
You spoke of QR codes. I have made some progress.
At present I am using the medium size QR code to put on the back of the transposers I make for my guitar students. The QR code links straight to my web site where they can access my Free guitar tips + tabs and my guitar lessons contact.
Here is the Transposer link:
http://www.houlston.freeserve.co.uk/transposer.htm
Or click on my name above to go there.
The QR code fits quite nicely on the back.
I am not sure of using the qr code on my business card as I am not sure it will fit on the front. Maybe attached to the back of the card if it will fit. I need to investigate that. I do not give out many business cards as most people find me on the internet so a business card is not really needed but my students really do appreciate the transposers I make for them.
I feel that the transposers are useful to my students whereas a business card is a bit of a wasted effort. I leave my transposers pretty much anywhere I meet other musicians and I get thanked for it whereas a business card….
I have even had some kind comments from musicians in USA thanking me for the transposer template as shown via above link.
My nephew works in IT and he is most impressed that an oldie like me could teach him about QR codes that he did not know!
Once again thanks for your help in making me “hip/cool” in the eyes of my nephew.
Best wishes,
